Want to Finally Achieve those Fitness New Year Goals? Here’s How.
A new
year starts and with new enthusiasm, we come up with goals we want to achieve.
This often includes starting one's fitness journey for a healthier lifestyle.
However, many people become overwhelmed and don’t start at all. This is a guide
for you if you are too overwhelmed and don’t know where you should start your
fitness journey from.
HOW TO START
YOUR FITNESS JOURNEY?
1.
MAKE A
COMMITMENT AND REMAIN ACCOUNTABLE
The
starting point and the decision to change is the part that requires the most
motivation. Change requires you to commit to yourself, and your goals and
remain steadfast even in face of challenges. Start by committing yourself that
if you want to achieve this you’ll give it you're all. Along with this
commitment start by setting certain accountability measures if you do not achieve
what you said out to achieve. This could be in the form of a fitness partner
that helps you remain accountable or in the form of a reward that you will miss
out on if you fail to achieve said goals.
2.
SET GOALS AND
A VISION
Making
Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, and Time-bound goals. Having a
certain vision of what you want to achieve will help you stay motivated and
give you the push you need. This also involves giving you a why and reminds you
of why you are starting this journey in the first place.
3.
START SMALL
Many
people commit the mistake of becoming over-ambitious and wanting to achieve
everything at the same time. Some think that the more tough workouts one will
achieve the faster the results. This is not true. Tough workouts can lead to
muscle tears if you are not used to them. Therefore, start small even if that
small is 10 squats or just walking, and then gradually transition to running. If
you’re confused about where you should start asking a friend, join a fitness
club or research on the internet for guided workouts.
4.
SOMETHING IS
BETTER THAN NOTHING
A 5-minute
workout is better than nothing. If you keep on incorporating these 5-minute workouts,
you get 35 minutes of working out per week. Taking even the smallest steps
count. This point is correlated with the above as they say: Start small but at
least start.
5.
INCORPORATE
MORE MOVEMENTS
Along
with your workout routine start adding more movements to your daily routine.
This means taking those stairs to your office, school, or university rather than
the elevator.
6.
BRING ALONG A
FRIEND
If you
have difficulty staying motivated bring a friend or colleague along with you.
In times you feel unmotivated they will help you and you can do the same for
them. As mentioned in the first point, they can be excellent accountability partners,
and you are more likely to carry on working out for longer.
7.
FOCUS ON
NUTRITION
When
starting, many people attempt the mistake of focusing on exercise alone and disregarding
the importance of nutrition. For gaining or losing weight regulating the level
of calories is an essential component that must be given attention.
8.
BUILD DISCIPLINE
Lastly,
one must understand that motivation can do only so much. Motivation can run out
but building discipline to work out at a specific time can take you a long way.
Hopefully,
this article provided you with the basics to start your fitness journey. What
are you waiting for then? Go make the change for the ideal body you’ve always
wanted!
